Trip – High Trestle Trail

high trestle trail

This summer many festivals and events have been postponed or canceled.

But that doesn’t mean you have to sit at home.

Get out and explore the amazing sights and destinations across the county.

The High Trestle Trail is a decommissioned rail line that runs for 25 miles through five towns and four counties. The trail includes an iconic, 1/2-mile, 13-story high bridge across the Des Moines River valley, one of the largest trail bridges in the world. It’s the capstone for 25 miles of paved trails that run from Ankeny, Iowa to Woodward Iowa.

There are a variety of access points with plenty of brewery’s, bars and restaurants along the way. It’s a destination for cyclists, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts. Listed as one of BBC’s “eight amazing footbridges” it’s free, and open all hours, though the lights turn off at 9 pm.

Biking, beers, breathtaking views. It’s worth traveling to and spending the day riding.

“A great trail even for beginners since it’s relatively flat and you can stop for a beer every 6 miles.” – Craig
